So if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that last year

I had a problem with my ear that resulted in me being unable to see for most of the year.

For a good six months, it also involved me not being able to stand up very well. I would just sort of fall over in the street, which was not actually that distressing.

And that’s what I’d like to talk to you about today. Not falling over in the street but why struggle is a state of mind. It doesn’t have to be difficult.

My name is Liz Scully. I’m a business strategist.

And these days I see a lot better than I was last year. I had this middle ear issue. Which resulted in my balance being really all over the place. As a result of that, my eyesight was really very very bad. I really couldn’t see.

But what I found fascinating was I was actually fine with it.

A lot of the people around me would use this exact wording: ”I’m so sorry you’re struggling with that.” But I wasn’t struggling with it.

Because what the upshot of what I learnt while I was ill was I learnt how to read books super quickly with my ears not my eyes, but I also optimized my business.

I went from working 10 hours a day to working 2 hours a day and my business grew.

You probably heard me talk about this. But the struggle part of it – I’d always wanted a year off to read books and that’s what I got. I actually got about 18 months off reading books. And now I read books with no trouble at all. It was a wonderful thing.

This concept of struggling, if I’d felt that it was a problem. Occasionally I’ll talk about it, and people ask me if I’m well now. And I’m like “I’m fine. I haven’t fallen over in the street for months now. I can read again if I wanted to, I get a few headaches, but I can watch movies again.”

When I hear myself say that I’m like “Ah actually yeah that does sound pretty bad.” But it wasn’t bad because

struggle is absolutely how you view it.

My friend Charlie Gilkey refers to it as The Struggle Bus. People are so desperate to get onto The Struggle Bus. But you can simply reframe how things happen so that they aren’t that difficult.

Like making money:

When you need to make money it’s obviously very stressful when you’ve got to get the cash in soon. But the process of it is quite simple. It isn’t that hard.

And this is a big part of what I cover in my courses, in my Masterminds and when I’m doing workshops. Because if you can make this switch where you’re not stressed and you have the space.

I realize that’s easy to say when you’ve got your bills paid, and everything’s fine. But even then if you can kind of relax into it, that feeling of tension and everything being difficult. My life wouldn’t have been better if I had been stressed about the fact that I couldn’t walk to the end of the street without falling over.

Well, it was actually kind of nice. I held hands with all sorts of strangers last year. Lots of nice people picked me off the floor. And now I’m fine.

So really, review your own moments of stress.

Are you really struggling? Or are you allowing yourself to feel like that?

It might be hard in the moment, but when you have a breathing moment, look back, probably you’re not struggling. Probably it’s not that bad. If you’re not being eaten by wild tigers right now, life’s pretty good.

And if you have questions about your own business come along to one of my regular Q&A sessions. There’s a box below just drop your email in there. It would be lovely to see you.
