In London, there is this amazing flower market. It’s called

Columbia Road Flower Market.

It runs only on Sundays – and with the pandemic, not that often. But you can go there and buy super cheap flowers, and plants and it is a delight. It is rammed. It is super busy, but you will have a great time.

I was there a few years back buying plants for my new home.

I wanted to get some night flowering Jasmine

because I really liked the idea of sitting there of an evening with the window open, the beautiful scent of Jasmine coming in from the garden. Lovely image, right?

So, I’m shuffling along to the crowd in Columbia Road and I see a guy shouting

‘Jasmine! Jasmine! Get your Jasmine!’

We call it ‘calling’ in London. The guy calling on the market, shouting out his wares just like Dickensian times really. Except more Jasmine related in this case.

So I shuffle up to him and say,

‘Is that night blooming Jasmine?’

Because that’s what I wanted. He looked at me completely blankly and said, ‘I don’t know, Love. I work the fruit stalls in the week.’ I’m like, ’Er okay.’ Then he went ‘But I tell you what.

It’s Jasmine. It’s a fiver. Do you want it?’

And you know what? I did.

And here’s the thing.

When your sales call-to-action is that clear it’s very hard to resist.

Was it exactly what I wanted? Sadly, no, it wasn’t night-blooming Jasmine. It was very nice and it was a fantastic price. And that plant lived at my house for many, many years, very happily.

And this is what I want you to take away from this.

You don’t have to have exactly what the client wants.

What you have to have is a really clear call-to-action, and a really clear pitch.

If it’s not a perfect fit, tell them. Because it really matters. This is what I do when I do strategy calls with people to see if they’re a good fit for my products.

Maybe they want to do 1-to-1 work. Maybe they want to do Mastering Masterminds. If they’re not a perfect fit, if their business isn’t at the right time, I will tell them. I will suggest they go and do something else in the meantime, or maybe this isn’t perfect for them right now.

For lots of people, it is a great fit. But for some people, maybe they should wait a little while before this. And they appreciate it. I appreciate it when someone else does it for me.

You want a clear call-to-action.

You want them to understand the situation.

Was it flowering or not flowering? Who knows. The price was right. The location was right. And I left very happy in my purchase.

Make sure your clients are getting that kind of result.
