I recently read The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal. If you’ve not read it do, it’s a fantastic read.

But there was a piece of research in there that absolutely fascinated me. It was this: someone had studied elite troops – Marines, the SAS – and what they discovered is that the whole cohort is only as fit as the least fit person.

Meaning, that if you have 10 people running races, but one of them is very unfit, everybody runs slower. Fascinating.

So if you work on the fitness of at least fit person bringing them up to speed everybody runs fitter. The people that we are surrounded by are super important to the actual results we all get. Not just if you’re running together, but if you’re running singly.

It’s really important.

Now, this is vital to me because obviously as someone who curates and puts together Masterminds, I spend a lot of time really thinking about the groups and how they’re put together. Not just the goals that people have but their speed to that. Meaning that how quickly you intend to achieve that goal.

If, for instance, you and I both intend to earn a million dollars in the next year and you’re at $900,000 you don’t have that far to go to make it to the million. If I’m starting from scratch I have a long way to go. I’m probably moving more slowly than you. Except, of course, if this is my 15th time to make a million dollars, I’ve just had a massive exit, I’m going to be moving faster than you because I have all the resources in place.

So I make sure that the curation of my groups is such that people move together at the same speed. This means that sometimes it takes longer to put a group together. Or sometimes I will waitlist people because they’re fantastic but I don’t have the right group for them.

This level of curation and that piece of information that the speed of the group, the level that people are at is really important, I’m sure that this is why my groups stay together for such a long time because I spend all of this time on curation.

So, if you’re choosing a Mastermind, make sure you choose somewhere that has the same level of curation as I’m talking about.

And if you’re interested in joining one of my Masterminds, then, of course, it will be delightful to have your application. Check below if Mastering Mastermind or the Action Mastermind are open then it would be great to hear from you.

And if not, get on the waitlist because curation and a careful setup is super important.
