My name is Liz Scully. I’m a business strategist.

Today, I want to talk to you about creating a frictionless business.

By that I mean one that flows smoothly. Where all the parts are very simple and very easy.

You don’t have to be a big business to have that effect.

What you need is systems in place to make sure that everything works.

I know systems can be a scary word, but it can be as simple as making sure that when you buy something an automatic email goes out or that the processes to take payments are simple.

When I’m working with clients, one of the things I always ask them to do right at the beginning is to buy something from their own business. I know it sounds ridiculous. And not to pretend to buy something – to actually buy something.

Go through the whole checkout process. How much of a pain is it? How long did it take before your email arrived saying that you’d been delivered? How much of a pain was it to go from the website to go out to PayPal, to go out to ThriveCart, to go to SamCart. Do you have a special check-out? Is it smooth? Do the emails that you get, do they make sense?

How does it all fit together?

I know there’s one regular provider I’ve got, they’ve obviously tweaked their email somewhere on the way recently and every single month when my payment goes out I get a ’Welcome to X product!’ And I’m like, ’But I bought it years ago. I don’t need to see this.’ Check!

When that stuff is done well – and very few business owners actually do this – but if you go through the whole thing, I can guarantee you’ll find something that you can do better. Something that can be automated that’s done by hand. Something that’ll make it easier for you to have that friction-free experience.

One thing I will say to you is make sure you refund yourself if you do buy something. And also look at how that process is. Was it a pain in the ass to do? Was it lovely and smooth? Did you get a nice clear email explaining what had happened?

There are a few places to look for friction.

The simple ones are:

– buy something from your product,
– book a call with yourself,
– check your receipts system.

So, petty cash, payroll, however many people you have working with you, even just paying outsourcers. Look at those places. They are often places that take up far too much time.

How do statements get from your bank, your online banking to your bookkeeper (if you have one), to your accountant (if you have one)? Or iff you do it all yourself, how smooth is that? Where can you take the friction out?

Because when you do this well, you can truly change your business.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I went through a couple of years where I frankly couldn’t really see at all. And that meant that I could only work for 2 hours a day. I have a beautifully frictionless business now.

I went from a pretty simple business to an incredibly frictionless business. You can too.
