In my 30s – which we’re going to be kind and pretend was quite recently  – I used to do a great deal of clubbing. Proper, hardcore, go out on Friday, come back on Monday, kind of clubbing.

I was doing a lot of very lovely work in film and was doing that ‘play hard, work hard’ thing.

There’s a club in London called The End in Central London which we favoured. You get to it down a tiny road and then a sharp left.

It’s almost hidden, a kind of special place. If you don’t know it’s there you’d never find it.  Though on Friday or a Saturday nights you’ll see a constant stream of club kids heading round the corner.

We turned up, turned the corner and at that point we could see the front of the club. There was an enormous line. Huge. It wasn’t even that late in the evening.

But all to the left there’s this massive, four-deep line. Yet to the right it’s all set up for the door staff to take tickets – but there’s no line at all. Odd.

So we speak to the bouncers and ask if the really busy side is the VIP line?’ He tells us the empty line is the paid line.

Really odd. All of those people wasting their night lining up outside were for free tickets.

Presumably one of the DJs has been handing out VIP passes like candy and now there were many more guest list people than paying clients. So strange – and unheard of for such a big club night.

Obviously, we asked the bouncer the next logical question  ‘If we just pay – like we were planning to…’

‘Yeah, you can get in now.’

So that’s exactly what we did.

‘Happy to pay!’ we shouted and ran straight in.

I kid you not, we were in and through the security checks within about five minutes we were at the bar listening to some of the best DJs in London.

Admittedly, we were in there alone as the place was almost empty – everyone else was outside in the cold in the free ticket line. So we had front-row seats and lots of room on the dance floor. No crush, lots of attention from the staff and crucially no waiting.

The point being spending all that time waiting for free stuff isn’t very useful. And this, my lovely friend, is where I bring this around to business strategy… because my name is Liz Scully. And I’m a business strategist. And everything is about strategy to me.

Those people at The End were wasting their own time. They were literally choosing to be out in the cold. They could have paid such a small amount and got a quick result. And this to me is exactly like people who will only attend free webinars or free training and don’t progress. If they paid they’d get results much more quickly.

Now don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to be said for a free webinar or a free Q&A. As you know, I regularly run them myself. In fact, there’s a box below for just that. Free is great.

But once you know it works – the system, the methodology, the coaching –  once you know you want to be inside that club with those fantastic people, I really think it’s worth paying.

Now obviously, not everyone has the cash for everything and not everything is the perfect fit. But all things being equal, if you know it’s right and you’re able to, it’s worth paying for a quick result and always worth paying for individual attention.

Instead of slogging through all that endless free training –  how many times would it just have been easier to pay for the course, to get the coaching, to pony up the money and not waste years trying to figure it out on your own?

Don’t be a club kid waiting outside hoping you’ll get in before the cut-off point if for small money you could be inside at the bar dancing away to your favourite music.

Don’t waste opportunities. Free is wonderful. But don’t sacrifice results for that.

Or your precious time.

So hopefully, see you on a free Q&A soon. You can see if working more closely with me will be a good fit for you. Test me out and get your question answered at the same time. #Result

Even better, come and join one of my courses. I teach people how to run Masterminds – frankly better than anyone else – because other people will tell you how to sell one. I’ll do that of course, plus teach you how to build a community and get results for the whole Mastermind group. That matters – that’s why clients come back year after year.

Don’t wait outside for no real reason.

Really, invest in yourself. Save time. Don’t take years to get results because you’re trying to cobble it all together for free.
