5 minute yoga you can do on the phone
We spend a lot of time communicating.
Some days it may seem as though it’s all we do – some emails here, some phone calls there, and let’s not forget the meetings.
If it’s a good day, we may wrap it up with a glass of wine with friends or a cosy chat with our partners.
Luckily, you can find a way to sneak some yoga into all that talking – and no one needs to know you’re doing it. Unless you want to tell them, that is.
Neck stretches and rolls
Sit on a chair and straighten your back. Relax your shoulders. Place one hand under your thigh on the same side. Use the hand with the phone to push your head down gently towards the opposite shoulder (you’ll have to cross this arm in front of your body or curl it over your head).
Hold for a moment, then repeat on the other side. This is such a wonderful stretch; you’ll want to do a few sets.
Once you’ve loosened the muscles in your neck, drop your head forward to your chest. Then roll it gently onto one shoulder two or three times. Switch your phone hand and repeat on the other side.
Seated lower back stretch
Remain seated in the middle of your chair, and make sure your back remains straight. Use your free hand to grab underneath one thigh; gently pull it towards your chest. Don’t lean forward while you hold this stretch for 25-30 seconds. You may want to hold it even longer as you feel the tension pulled apart. Relax, then repeat on the other side.
Turn towards a wall and place one palm flat against the wall, level with your shoulder. Straighten your arm, with your fingers pointed upward. Then walk your fingers down the wall while your wrist stretches until you can’t go down any further. Hold this position for about 15 seconds and then reverse your walk back upwards. Repeat at least twice with each hand.
And there you have it – a few stress relieving stretches you can do while chatting with a friend – or your business partner.
Now it does break one of the main rules of communication – staying focused, so don’t do it while concluding a business deal…
This is part of our popular 5 minute yoga series – yoga you can sneak into your day in tiny little chunks to keep you fit and supple without having to drag yourself to the gym. Many of them are even shorter than 5 minutes. There’s sneaky.
